Modelling Shallow Groundwater Evaporation Rates from a Large Tank Experiment

چکیده

Abstract A large tank (1.4 m x 4.0 1.3 m) filled with medium-coarse sand was employed to measure evaporation rates from shallow groundwater at controlled laboratory conditions, determine drivers and mechanisms. To monitor the level drawdown 12 piezometers were installed in a semi regular grid equipped high precision water level, temperature, electrical conductivity (EC) probes. In each piezometer, 6 micro sampling ports every 10 cm capture vertical salinity gradients. Moreover, soil content, temperature EC measured unsaturated zone using TDR probes placed 5, 20 40 depth. The monitoring started February 2020 lasted for 4 months until became residual. model heads, variations SEAWAT employed. calibrated then used obtain unknown parameters, such as: maximum (1.5-4.4 mm/d), extinction depth (0.90 m), mineral dissolution (5.0e -9 g/d) concentration (0.35 g/L). Despite uniformly distributed, increase of rather uneven, while mimicked atmospheric increase. initial small changes rate evapoconcentration process groundwater, effective porosity most sensitive parameter. This study demonstrates that sandy soils can produce homogeneous table but appreciable differences distribution salinity.

Shallow Groundwater Use by Alfalfa

Disposal of saline drainage water is a significant problem for irrigated agriculture. One proposal is to recycle drainage water to irrigate salt tolerant crops until the volume has been reduced sufficiently to enable final disposal by evaporation. Part of this concept requires in-situ crop water use from shallow groundwater; and data is needed to quantify the potential use of groundwater by alt...

Groundwater Modelling: from Geology to Hydrogeology

Three-dimensional mapping has extensively developed in the last decade; geological mapping being the area where these developments are more striking. 3D geological mapping has a myriad of applications in the domains of basin analysis, geophysics, geostatistics, geothermal and energy resources, etc. A parallel domain of development has been three-dimensional groundwater modelling: regional groun...

Daily Pan Evaporation Modelling With ANFIS and NNARX

Evaporation, as a major component of the hydrologic cycle, plays a key role in water resources development and management in arid and semi-arid climatic regions. Although there are empirical formulas available, their performances are not all satisfactory due to the complicated nature of the evaporation process and the data availability. This paper explores evaporation estimation methods based o...

Modelling the Evaporation of a Liquid Droplet

This report explores the development of a one-dimensional mathematical model for the evaporation of a pure liquid droplet suspended in its own vapour. In an attempt to account for all relevant transport mechanisms, a “first principles” approach is taken by developing the model from fundamental conservation equations. With the aid of a perturbation analysis, a reduced system of equations is achi...

Entrainment of viruses from septic tank leach fields through a shallow, sandy soil aquifer.

A study was conducted which focused on movement of naturally occurring human enteroviruses from a subsurface wastewater disposal system through a shallow aquifer. The potential for significant entrainment of virus particles was evidenced by their recovery at down-gradient distances of 67.05 m and from aquifer depths of 18 m. A significant negative correlation was observed between virus occurren...
